Tax amnesty

Published December 7, 2016

THIS refers to the National Assembly’s approval of tax amnesty for realty sector. Despite strong opposition from the FBR and the media, the government went ahead and rewarded those who were defying its writ.

While honest taxpayers paid up to 35pc tax every year, dishonest people get to pay only 3pc. Also, it is indeed shocking that even Imran Khan hasn’t said anything against the bill. I thought he was a paragon of virtue and didn’t have any corrupt people in his party.

I suggest that from now on the government should collect income tax from the people at 3pc only, irrespective of income and whether it is legal or not. If it cannot do that, at least it should return the amount of the tax paid by honest, law-abiding citizens over the past many years.
