LAHORE, Dec 17: A four-member delegation of the Pakistan Railways left for New Delhi via Wagah on Wednesday to hold talks with the Indian authorities for resuming Samjhota Express.

Led by additional general-manager (passenger) Iqbal Khatri, the team included chief mechanical engineer Asad Saeed, chief commercial manager (freight) Gulraiz Hashmi and FA&CAO Chaudhry Muhammad Ali.

Mr Khatri told reporters at Wagah that they were going to New Delhi for restoration of Samjhota Express operations apparently after both the governments reached an understanding.

He said they would hold talks to decide technical affairs like fare and attaching lower airconditioned and parlour cars with the train.

Parleys would also be held about restoring freight service, he added.

Mr Khatri said earlier both the countries issued rail tickets for eight stations and now their number could be increased if they agreed to it.

He said the rail fare for Samjhota Express was the lowest for crossing an international borders anywhere in the world.

Only Rs50 is charged for crossing the border through Wagah.
