The Pakistan chapter of Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Sunday terminated the basic party membership of lawmaker Ali Raza Abidi for not abiding by the party policies.

Furthermore, Abidi has been asked by the party to resign from his seat in National Assembly.

According to a statement issued by MQM, Abidi’s membership was terminated after he continuously failed to follow the party policies and directives constituted after August 23, 2016.

The party maintained that Abidi was warned several times but he continued to violate party polices after which it was decided to terminate his basic party membership.

The decision was taken during a meeting of MQM’s coordination committee, read the party statement.

The London chapter of MQM, however, lashed out at the party's decision to end Abidi's membership, saying they have no right or legal standing to expel any party member.

MQM leader Wasey Jalil, while reacting to the party's decision of sacking Ali Raza Abidi, tweeted that the "PIB gang has no right to keep or expel any worker according to MQM's constitution".
