Peshawar's newly formed police unit attacked, ASI killed

An officer of the newly formed City Patrolling Police Peshawar was killed and two injured on Monday when unidentified assailants opened fire with an assault rifle at a police vehicle in the Shinwari Town area of Peshawar.

The deceased police officer was identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Asmat Khan.

"Any police force is under threat in the province," said Senior Superintendent Police Operations.

While talking to DawnNews, a local who witnessed the incident said, "Gunmen were riding on a motorcycle holding an AK-47 and they fled towards Shinwari town".

ASI Asmat Khan died on the spot whereas the injured police officials were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment.

City Patrolling Police is a newly formed unit, established by the provincial government to patrol in Peshawar city and the cantonment areas.
