The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Saturday penalised Din News, Neo TV and Sach TV for slandering the court judges and broadcasting irresponsible analysis and comment against the judiciary.

Pemra suspended the licence of Din News for thirty days and fined the channel Rs1 million for airing inappropriate and insulting comments against the judiciary .

Neo TV 's licence was suspended for seven days and it was also fined Rs1 million for airing slandering comments against the honourable judges in their program hosted by Ahmed Qureshi.

The electronic media watchdog slapped a fine of Rs 1million on Sach TV for airing inappropriate comments of a caller against a judge during a live program.

Pemra on November 19 issued show cause notices to all three channels and asked them to attend a hearing on November 26 to present their stance on the issue.

However, on November 26 all three channels failed to justify the allegations levelled by Pemra.

Pemra's decision will be implemented from December 1 and the channels will have to broadcast an apology for the misconduct in a transparent manner after the suspension ends.
