PESHAWAR, Dec 16: A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court on Tuesday admitted to full hearing a writ petition filed by a student against non-provision of admission to him in one of the major colleges here, Islamia College Peshawar.

The bench comprising Justice Shehzad Akber Khan and Justice Fazalur Rehman Khan observed that the points raised by the petitioner, Kashan Abdullah, needed consideration. The bench also sought comments from the principal of the college.

The student claimed that he was denied admission in Third year classes of the college on the ground that he was expelled from the college in the second year.

The petitioner stated that his name was struck off from the college when he was studying in the second year classes. He claimed that he filed an appeal before the principal of the college who accepted it and he again started studying there.

The student claimed that during the annual examinations he obtained 656 marks. He stated that on the basis of those marks he applied for admission in the third year classes, however he was astonished to know that despite qualifying on merit his name was not included in the concerned list.

The petitioner stated that the only reason given to him was that he was expelled from the college due to his indulgence in negative activities, due to which he could not be admitted again.

The petitioner’s counsel contended that he was issued a character certificate by the college authorities after he passed the intermediate examination. He asked how could he be denied admission to the college when he qualified on merit.
