India successfully test-fires nuclear-capable Agni-I ballistic missile: report

India on Tuesday successfully test-fired the nuclear-capable Agni-I ballistic missile, which can hit a target 700km away, reported Times of India.

The test was conducted as part of a training exercise by Strategic Forces Command of Indian Army, defence officials quoted by ToI said.

"The surface-to-surface missile, powered by solid propellants, was test-fired from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island," ToI quoted defence officials as saying.

The official declared the trial as successful and added that the launch of the intermediate range single-stage missile was undertaken as periodic training activity by SFC to further consolidate operational readiness.

The Agni-I missile is said to be equipped with a sophisticated navigation system which allows it to reach a target with a high degree of accuracy and precision.

Officials claim that Agni-I, weighing 12 tonnes, was designed to carry a payload of more than one tonne. Its strike range can be extended by reducing the payload.

ASH MAN - Agni 1 has the shortest range. Agni 5 has a range of 8000-10,000 km. That has also been tested. Agni 6 has a range if 15,000 km and is being tested. Both Agni 5 and Agni 6 are Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles.

But please can anyone convince me on the need of the above and justify expenditure on it. Be peaceful and you will have tons of money to enjoy life.

Cruise missle babur has range of 700 km that can be launched from jf 17too which can carry even pl12 missle which is more advance than Meteor missle of Indian rafaels.Block 3 would carry pl 13...

Try telling that to the warmongers in the West (where you are sitting) who export weapons to 3rd world countries and stir up wars. Just look up who are the world's biggest weapons exporters : that information is not hard to find. It the West stopped meddling around with other countries, yes we would have peace and tons of money indeed.

The new modernised su-30 mki has also been upgraded to carry nuclear war heads . Besides , rafale is also capable of delievering nuclear warheads. The arihant class nuclear submarines are equipped with k4 SLMB which are capable of carrying nuclear warheads. I think this is enough to give you an idea about india's robust nuclear deterrence.

India is afraid of Pakistan and it is because of this reason, it is constantly developing and improving its arsenals including missile technology, but it must keep in mind that Pakistan has no ill intentions against India, except that Pakistan is committed to support Kashmiris in their just struggle for achieving right of self-determination. India must keep in mind that if it made any mistake of aggression against Pakistan or did not back off from supporting and patronizing terrorism in Balochistan, it will have to pay off with same of kind of commotion and disturbance in its own soil. So, better to stay away from Pakistan and do not drive Pakistan in the arms race, which will prove fatal to India.

There is nothing new in this, they have tested 2 missiles from inventory (which were manufactured earlier). Just random tests for checking how efficient missiles are.

@JSR :: Feed your people first. Set priorities. Send this message to the world that no one sleeps hungry in India, India have best medical care and so on. If launch of 82 satellites in a single mission will help feed the hungry that send 1000 of them. I am not trying to compete or compare both countries. They both have similar issues.

@GK ( Netherland) You living in Netherlands may not be able to appreciate the need since you are covered by NATO and US defence umbrella. Rest of the world still has unresolved conflicts so everyone is trying to only protect themselves. I agree with the dream of a perfect world where such weapons are not needed. In this case I do not side with either India or Pakistan - just that unfortunately the world is still at conflict and history has taught us all to be prepared or go away. If the NATO and US umbrella is withdrawn and you have a threat emanating from the east then I am pretty sure you will be advocating such weapons for your own survival and that of your country. Unfortunate situation, but until India and Pakistan can resolve their differences they are both equally justified in developing all measures possible to defend themselves. But I request you to not preach if you are not living it yourself. But I vote for peace along with you.
