Senior Pakistan People Party leader Jahangir Badar passed away on late Sunday night at a local hospital in Lahore.

Badar, 72, was brought to the hospital two days ago due kidney and cardiac complications, DawnNews reported.

He was born on Oct 25, 1944. He remained a student leader and started his political carrier in association with PPP chairman Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. His association with PPP spanned more than four decades. He was among close political companions of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Badar served the party on various positions. He remained General Secretary of PPP and provincial president of party's Punjab chapter. In 1988, he was elected member national assembly. He was also elected senator in 1994 and 2009.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and others offered their condolence.
