KP Ehtesab Commission arrests Islamia University's professor over corruption charges

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission on Thursday arrested Islamia Collage University professor Dr Naeem Khalid for alleged embezzlement of millions of rupees in the varsity funds and misuse of authority, said a statement issued by the commission.

Dr Naeem Khalid was serving at the Islamia Collage University Peshawar as the chairman of physics department.

"Ehtesab Commission started investigation against Dr Naeem Khalid on various complaints lodged by varsity employees and during initial investigation commission found the accused involved in corruption and misuse of authority," said an official of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission.

“The most senior staff member of the university was arrested on the charges of corruption and misuse of his authority,” he added.

The statement issued by the commission further added that accused will be presented before the court on Friday for acquisition of judicial remand.

Very depressing! If the top level professors of a historic place of learning is corrupt, what would be the lead that his students would pick to follow?

Dr. Naeem Khalid was my teacher and I have huge respect for him. I am a staunch supporter of PTI and I request PTI and Ehtesaab commision to treat him with respect. Infact we should treat teachers with respect even if they are being accused of wrong doings.

@Sheraz he was your teacher, but now he is a criminal. He should be treated like any other criminal and should not get a pass just because he is a teacher. Justice should be equal if we are ever going to succeed.

@SadFaces Even those who are allowed the benefit of the doubt (or fool the public again and again) after one wrong doing, and commit the same crime again, should we give them Five-Star treatment - especially someone who has been in jail before for similar crimes, and holds the highest office in the land!? Catch my drift!? A Teacher, a Banker, A Military officer or Politician. No one is above the law. They all should be treated equally if guilty of a crime.

Teachers are more than teachers of a subject. They should be exemplary in character and deeds. They are our role models and instill passion, zeal, knowledge and values in us when we are young and impressionable. When a teacher commits an offense, he not only breaks the rules of his own profession, but shakes the confidence of his students and faculty, and casts doubts on all that he has imparted. Students usually follow a certain career or course in life, based on their impressions of certain teachers they've had, who contributed to building the character of their students.

Ahtsab chairman was sacked by Khattak when he turned his investigation against him and his ministers. I think no body cares about teachers and clerks and now pti will sell it like a huge change in KP.

He was not my professor but I was in Islamia College when he had joined in mid to late 90s. I think no one's name should be thrown in media, until they are proven guilty. It creates a negative environment and makes life very difficult for innocent people, who may well have been framed. There many people who get investigated daily, some get charged, many are just innocent victims or pieces in a large investigative puzzle. Lets hope the matter is fully investigated soon and if he wrong, then he should be named with punishment for abuse of his position and bringing disrepute to such an honourable profession.

Dr. Naeem Khalid is PhD from Oxford University. He is very talented teacher of physics in KP. If the Ehtesab commission is really interested to eradicate corruption then they should have arrested the Vice chancellors first which everyone know are corrupt. KP government is fooling its own people.

This is not unique. Such malpractices are on rise in.every provine of Pakistan Especially in Punjab. Change the system and introduce accountability in every sphere of Govt and non Govt institution.

couldn't believe when saw his name here. I had very positive image of Dr Khalid as young & popular lecturer, who was away for PhD during my FSc days at the then Islamia College Peshawar about twenty years ago. it hurts more when people, whom we had idolised, are involved in such dodgy practices.

i was his student, i dont think he might have embezzle funds, but yes he did some favoritism in appointments. though i am suspicious about his wife which is in KP public service commission.

The cases are politically motivated by strong opponents in the university who are themselves dishonest. This guy had good intentions to work and rectify things in the university but did not have strong family background. In fact our institutions are held hostage by strong corrupt mafias. A weak in-charge can only harm himself if he wants to fight with the mafia to bring about any positive changes. Our institutions are unable to provide any strength to the honest, in fact.
