Durham retain Shoaib Akhtar

KARACHI, Dec 11: Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar will once again turn out for Durham after the English county re-signed him on Thursday for the 2004 season.

The 28-year-old will be joined next year by mercurial South African opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs, who has also agreed to play for the second division county as the second overseas player.

Shoaib played briefly for the same team during the 2003 season, taking 34 wickets at just above 17 runs apiece. Durham’s opponents face a torrid time because Shoaib teams up with England paceman Steve Harmison.
