BERLIN: Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa struck as Bayern Munich disposed of Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0 on Saturday to claim their first win in three Bundesliga matches.

What was expected to be a tight affair, with Gladbach fresh from their midweek Champions League victory at Celtic, turned into a one-sided encounter.

The visitors produced only one shot on target in the opening period against undefeated Bayern’s 12 as Carlo Ancelotti’s men got a first win over Gladbach in five Bundesliga matches after Borussia claimed home and away league victories in 2015.

After back-to-back draws in the league the win caps a good week for Bayern, who enjoyed a 4-1 romp against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday.

“The first half was an outstanding performance of high intensity,” Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti told reporters. “It was the best first half we’ve played this season.

“The second wasn’t quite so good and I told the players to be careful at the break as the energy wasn’t 100 percent after the PSV game.”

Ancelotti’s team have 20 points, two ahead Bundesliga newcomers RB Leipzig who defeated Werder Bremen 3-1 on Sunday as Guinea international Naby Keita scored twice.

Bayern attacked from the off and duly went ahead when Vidal powered a header under the bar from Rafinha’s cross after 16 minutes at Munich’s Allianz Arena.

Fifteen minutes later, winger Costa celebrated his first start of the season by taking David Alaba’s cross on his chest and firing the ball inside the right post. The Brazilian ran over to two fans, posed and took a selfie with them.

“If he always scores, he can take 100 selfies,” Bayern defender Mats Hummels said.

Gladbach’s best chance came after 71 minutes, when Andre Hahn struck the post with a well-timed volley, as they slid to 10th place.
