PESHAWAR: Former PPP provincial general secretary Humayun Khan has paid tribute to members of Bhutto family for strengthening democracy by sacrificing lives and urged workers to follow in their footsteps.

He was addressing a function organised here in connection with the death anniversary of PPP leader Begum Nusrat Bhutto.

The PPP leader praised party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his two sons, daughter and wife for going all-out to strengthen democracy in the country and said their sacrifices for the country would be remembered long.

He said Begum Nusrat Bhutto had faced many hardships despite facing the agony of husband’s hanging, and killings of two young sons and daughter.

Mr. Humayun said Begum Nusrat Bhutto’s life had a lot for party workers to follow for the strengthening of democracy in the country.

“The PPP’s long struggle against dictatorship is the glorious part of the country’s history. Nobody could deny it,” he said.

The PPP leader said despite facing so many difficulties, the party was still fighting for the rights of the poor and resourceless people and that it strongly believed weak democracy was better than martial law. He said PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was a leading light for the people and that he would steer the country out of the current crises and thus, ensuring the people’s welfare.

“Our party will sweep the 2018 general elections to form the next government in the centre,” he said.

Mr. Humayun said workers should strengthen the party to help mitigate misery of the people in their respective areas.
