MIRPURKHAS, Dec 11: Speakers at a seminar here on Wednesday demanded that the authorities should order a judicial investigation into alleged corruption of the taluka Nazim and municipal officers.

The seminar, aimed at fixing responsibility of corruption in the taluka municipal administration, was held at Citizens’ Gymkhana under the aegis of the Shehri Ittehad Action Committee.

A large number of people, including councillors and Naib Nazims, attended the seminar.

After the seminar, the committee announced to take out a protest procession but a huge contingent of police, surrounding the gymkhana, prevented it from doing so.

Speaking at the seminar, Naib Nazim, Balochabad union council, Imtiaz Panhwar, said that the local government system was introduced to transfer powers to grass roots level but corruption prevailed at the same level.

He accused the UC Nazims and councillors of usurping resources and added that the Naib Nazims were being bribed.

He demanded that the taluka Nazim should be suspended on corruption charges.

The seminar demanded an investigation into misappropriation of the TMA funds, resolution of issues pertaining to pension and retirement of the TMA employees, constitution of Mohalla committees, a daily visit by the taluka Nazim to each UC and solution of UCs’ problems and removal of unnecessary guards from TMA office.

It proposed that the newly recruited 150 sanitary workers should be handed over to the UCs.
