PESHAWAR: Book fair opens at KMC

PESHAWAR, Dec 11: Islami Jamiat Tulaba has arranged a three-day book fair at the Khyber Medical College here on Thursday to provide books at discounted rates.

Nearly 40 stalls have been established to provide medical books, computer CDs, Islamic literature, surgical instruments and audio cassettes.

Organized by the Study Aid Project of the IJT, the book fair has become a regular event, where the students get books and other education related accessories on discounted rates.

NWFP Health Minister Inyatullah Khan inaugurated the event. He went around various stalls and appreciated the efforts of the students to organize the activity.

On the occasion, he held out assurance to the student community that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government was trying its level best to help the students get quality education.

The IJT, he said was assisting the government in its drive to provide education to the people, especially the poor class of the society.

Talking to reporters, the IJT chief of the KMC, Samiullah, claimed that they had provided free books worth Rs25,000 to the poor students last year. During the current year, he added, applications had been received and free books would be distributed among the deserving lot.

“The event is being organized at the beginning of the new session every year to enable the students to purchase books for the new classes on subsidised rates,” said the IJT leader.

POPPY: District Nazim Lower Dir Ehsan-ul-Haq has warned farmers of strict action in case the prohibited poppy crop was cultivated in the area, adds APP.

This he said while talking to the members of monitoring team constituted for the prevention of poppy crop cultivation.

The team was headed by Manzoor Ahmed, the additional secretary interior and tribal affairs.

The Nazim advised the farmers to cultivate some other profitable crop.
