Police file case against FC guard for slapping female reporter outside Nadra office

Karachi Police on Thursday registered a case against a Frontier Constabulary (FC) trooper deployed as a guard at the Nadra office in the Nazimabad area of the metropolis.

The FC guard slapped a female reporter of a private TV channel K-21, who was doing a live programme about the problems faced by citizens at Nadra registration office, said police officials.

The video on social media which shows the female reporter being slapped by the FC guard has gone viral, and attracted attention of the concerned authorities to take action.

"Gulbahar police have registered a case against the FC personnel over charges of conducting aerial firing and assaulting modesty of the female reporter of K-21 TV channel by slapping her," said SSP Central Muqadas Hyder while speaking to Dawn.

"Police have approached the FC authorities for seeking custody of the guard," he added.

Hyder also revealed that Nadra officials had also submitted an application for lodging a counter FIR against the TV channel employee for creating “hindrances in official work”.

Very well done and shame on nadra officials who are supporting it, my NIC was expired and it was a bitter experience I found most of them are deaf by nature and they treat common Pakistanis as animals. Thry do not care about your time or work, Its time to create an official page to report about nadra and all pakistanis should submit pictures and their experience to expose these so called officials.

NADRA needs to be probed and investigated by any and every possible reporter. Clearly counter FIR is borne out of malafide intent. Those coming for this FIR should be reprimanded by police instead. All female reporters for various channels are doing great service for the ordinary citizen.

After looking at the video clip it appears that in fact the TV reporter was a hindrance in FC's official work and ignited such reaction. Nevertheless, slapping a woman isn't an option. TV channel should train their reporters better so that such circumstances can be avoided in the future!

I have seen the video!!! Reporter's attitude was absolutely derogatory towards the guard. We have to make it clear that women rights does not give one a blanket immunity to behave whatever the way they like to. Guards response was way too harsh but the reporter was getting on the nerves of that guard.

Just saw the video on youtube, unfortunately there is no patience in our nation whether its FC person or any other. The reporter shouldn't have argued with an illiterate FC person and give him threats of media , I am sure he doesn't have much to loose by media ! At max he will be fired by FC with some punishment and re hired by some private security company. Still this act was shameful and respect of woman is obligatory.

Media reporters are needed to show some modesty and civility while conducting reporting or interviewing someone. The way she was shouting and chasing a security personnel might not in any angle shows she would be a professional journalist. The event became a news itself rather than to cover an event.

I condemned the act of both the parties. Our media needs to draw a boundary first. Media persons act like they own everything. Media role is to act like a neutral party, whereas it is commonly seen that media give its verdict on every matter. We have judicial system, we have departments for same, let them do their job. The FC person was harassed by the lady. She touched him, she grabbed his uniform which is not acceptable at any cost. This is the responsibility of every individual to respect the uniform. The FC person warn them, he stopped them and upon touching he reacted. The reaction was extreme. I request you all, not to put anyone in the situation where he or she has to make a call.

It was very obvious that she was trying to make it a big news. She had no right to touch her uniform and asking the camera to be on her face. In this situation. It was purely her fault but the reaction was too much. Our security personnel are very harsh on ordinary citizens.

Personally, I found both the lady journalist & the cop on the wrong foot. Lady reporter was almost getting extreme and inciting him & as a result the not so- educated cop lost his cool!.. We have utmost respect for ladies as they are our sisters/ mothers, but over- aggressive journalism should also introspect sometimes. Meanwhile, I would suggest a complete changeover of police system, at least in metro cities & recruit some young & educated people at constable ranks even. In India, we are also not 100% changed, but still a lot changed in last 15 -20 yrs. & lot of steps have been taken in modernization & makeover of police force. At least such open incidents are now a story of past here & policemen are a lot composed, sensible & trained for such scenarios!...

Your report is biased and showing only one side of story. You must explain the conduct of a female journalist which was derogatory and to some extent provoking. In professional ethich, if one person does not want to comment and is leaving then there is no need to grab him from arm. and what was she saying "Oye tum ko sharam nhn aati" and was putting mic into his mouth for comment. What a non sense. pls teach some manners to media persons. Channel has attained popularity at the expense of modesty of a female worker. Our heart is saddened at the event

Just saw a video clip. There was a lot of rush somewhere in Karachi. Media was trying to enter the premises and the guard on duty was preventing that. Guard must be from either police or FC. The lady kept on provoking him until he slapped her. Even though the woman was pushing, touching and accusing him a lot, still he should not have slapped her. Nevertheless, as I saw the complete clip, I noticed that he was not misbehaving with any other ladies as accused by the anchor. Wish, it was not a lady, I would really appreciate that slap. Then it would be a well deserved one. But hitting a woman is never okay. I hope, he gets punished and also the lady must be taught some manners and ethics.

Just imagine this man dared to slap the female anchor so harshly in front of the camera and large public what would be his attitude at his home? this is how women are treated. We should learn to respect the women. This men deserves punishment and requires counselling because if he dismissed from the service what would happen? another women at his home will suffer. We need to bring change in our attitude towards women. No society can become civilized without respecting their women.
