KARACHI, Dec 9: Advisor to Sindh chief minister on home affairs Aftab Shaikh on Tuesday described law and order in Sindh as satisfactory and called for a further improvement in the situation.

He was presiding over a meeting held here to review law and order situation in the province.

Additional chief secretary home, Syed Anwar Hyder, law secretary Syed Ghulam Nabi Shah, Capital City Police Officer and DIG Investigation attended the meeting.

A detailed review of the situation was held, legal matters thereof and conditions in jails also came under discussion.

On the occasion, the advisor called for reinforcement of police along with modern arms to provide an effective security to the people. He said police should be provided with more funds and vehicles.

Aftab Shaikh pointed out that besides better equipment, police also needed to have a spirit of serving the people as it was imperative to remove the wedge between the two.

He observed that if there was a greater cooperation between the police and the people, there was no reason why law and order should not improve. He said to maintain law and order, it is also necessary to make recruitment on merit and to carry out their training on modern lines.—APP
