KARACHI: Two cops killed in ambush

KARACHI, Dec 8: Two policemen were killed in an ambush by unknown armed men near Sindh-Balochistan border in the limits of Manghopir police station, late on Sunday night.

Last night, around 1.30pm, the two policemen, Head Constable Raza Mohammad, 42 and Constable Mehboob, 33, who were posted at Dai Mai Gari — a check post of Manghopir police, located at the Balochistan border — were patrolling on their official motorcycle, when some unknown armed men, who were hiding in the bushes, opened fire at them, police said.

The policemen returned the fire, but could not sustain the heavy firing from the other side and they suffered at least thirty bullets, the police said.

The attackers, who were probably robbers, took away the rifle of one of the policemen, the police added.

Bodies of both the policemen were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for the post-mortem examinations.

A case was lodged by the police against unknown criminals at the Manghopir police station.

The funeral prayers of the two policemen were offered at the police South headquarters, which was attended by senior police officials.

A young man committed suicide in New Karachi on Monday.

Police said that Shahid, 35, a worker in a towel factory, committed suicide by hanging himself from ceiling fan in his New Karachi apartment.The police said that the victim was father of three children.The police could not ascertain the immediate cause of the suicide.
