Mayor’s letter

Published September 25, 2016

THIS refers to ‘Mayor’s letter from prison’ (Sept 22) by Waseem Akhtar.

My first thought was that reporters must report facts and not try to create certain ‘angles’ which may be entertaining to some but quite embarrassing and humiliating for others.

Surprisingly, of the 39 cases filed by the police against Mr Akhtar, as many as 35 were registered in Malir district, the territory of SSP Rao Anwar, who is an entity unto himself and seems to have made it his life mission to hunt down MQM men to satisfy his ego and that of others and perhaps for reward and other incentives. The Rangers have just one case against WA which also seems to be a ‘made-up’ one.

In any case, the mayor is prepared to face all charges, and we know there is no possibility that he will flee the country if granted bail, which fact was proved by his recent trip abroad from which he returned as promised. So why can’t the mayor be bailed, to enable him to serve the city which has been badly run down because of the long absence of local bodies.
