KARACHI, Dec 7: Residents of Baghdadi Union Council are perturbed over the inordinate delay in the repair work of Shah Latif Bhittai Road, one of the major roads linking Lyari with Kharadar.

The road had badly been damaged by the recent rains and travelling on along it has become a nerve racking experience.

A survey of the road showed that the entire road is in a dilapidated condition and not usable for commuters as well as pedestrians because of potholes and ditches developed all across it.

With exception to some haphazard patch work carried out by the city government, no proper repair work has so far been undertaken to restore the road’s original condition.

The people living within the jurisdiction of the Baghdadi Union Council say that they had been facing a great deal of hardship due to the virtual closure of this vital artery and the dangerous ditches which pose a threat to pedestrians, especially women, children and senior citizens.

The provincial and city governments have constantly been assuring people of Baghdadi that roads and streets obstructing traffic flow or a smooth travel would be repaired at the earliest while those destroyed by rains, sewage, digging or other reasons would also be restored in their original condition. They had particularly been pledging resumption of repair work on Shah Latif Bhittai Road on a priority basis. However, none of the damaged roads in Lyari Town have been repaired as yet.

Though the city government has got potholes and ditches at some places on this road filled with gravels to give an impression that the work has been started, its initiative has made travelling more difficult. In order to avoid damage to tyres, drivers of passing vehicle resort to keep them along the sideways threatening the pedestrians.
