ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the occasion of Eid paid tribute to the people of India-held Kashmir 'who have sacrificed their third generation at the hands of Indian forces', Radio Pakistan reported.

PM Nawaz's statement on Tuesday comes as anti-India protesters clash with security forces in IHK despite imposition of a curfew in the region on Eid for the first time in nearly three decades.

The Foreign Office condemned the "unjustifiable" killing of Kashmiris, adding that the United Nations Human Rights head confirmed "continuing reports of excessive use of force by Indian authorities in IOK".

"The UN HR head Zeid also confirms that Pakistan has accepted a mission in tandem with a mission to IOK, with no response from India," FO Spokesman Nafees Zakaria tweeted.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the occasion of Eid and called on Pakistanis to remember suppressed segments of society.

"This day reminds all Muslims about unity, brotherhood and sacrifices," he said. "The same spirit is needed for the uplift and development of the country on the basis of our national interests."

Eid teaches us to forget our personal, sectarian and factional interests and shun the attitude of extremism, the PM said, calling for sacrifice, tolerance, brotherhood and moderation to become a part of daily affairs.

Earlier today police in Shikarpur foiled two suicide attacks targeting an Eid gah and an imambargah.

COAS offers Eid prayers with troops in Bajaur Agency

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif offered Eid prayers with Army and Frontier Corps troops in Bajaur Agency on Tuesday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The COAS reviewed the ongoing stabilisation operations in the region, and rehabilitation and reconstruction measures for border management enforcement along the Pak-Afghan border.

Gen Raheel urged tribal leaders to continue their support for keeping the writ of the state, and reiterated that the Army would not leave the area without restoring peace, completing rehabilitation efforts and transferring administrative control to an institutionalised mechanism, ISPR said.

The elders assured the Army chief of full support for security forces' efforts towards peace in Bajaur Agency.
