FAISALABAD, Dec 5: A neck and neck fight is expected for the top slots of the District Bar Association.

Rana Shahab and Chaudhry Muhammad Husain are in race for the office of president while Javed Awan and Javed Iqbal are vying for the seat of secretary general.

Babar Shah, Pervez Iqbal, Pervez Akhtar and Shahid Iqbal are the candidates for joint secretaryship.

Both the candidates for the president belong to PPP (Parliamentarians) and enjoy the support of their clans.

Meanwhile, electioneering is in full swing and all the candidates are holding meetings in the DBA offices and their chambers to muster support of voters.

The election will be held on January 10.

GANGS BUSTED: Police claim to have busted three gangs involved in over 200 incidents of kidnap for ransom, dacoity, highway robbery, murder and other heinous crimes.

District Police Officer Mohammad Amin told newsmen on Friday that these gangs had been active in the district for the last many years. On Thursday night, a police team headed by the Saddar ASP arrested 11 members of Bajwa gang from Chak Jhumra.

Those arrested are Ashraf, Arshad, Sanaullah, Ghulam Abbas, Umair Ali, Ahmad Husain, Naseem Akhtar, Mudassar Ali, Salman, Tahir Imran and Mudassar Husain.

The police recovered two machine-guns, nine rifles, two repeater guns, two motorcycles, cellular phones, fake identity cards and other documents from the possession of these outlaws.

The DPO claimed the police also rounded up a gang headed by Rana Rashid. The gang was involved in over 100 cases of heinous crimes especially car-lifting.

He said the gang members used to snatch vehicles in Faisalabad and later took the same to tribal areas.
