Speaker sends reference against Imran to ECP

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Speaker has forwarded a reference to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan from the legislature, Geo News reported late on Sunday night.

The reference, which was filed on Aug 4 by PML-N MNAs, would have automatically stood referred to the ECP at the end of a 30-day period under Article 63 of the Constitution.

Quoting National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, the channel said the reference stated that Imran Khan had made “misstatements” about his Bani Gala property.

According to the channel, the speaker noted that Mr Khan had declared he had received the property as a gift, whereas he had actually purchased it from his ex-wife, Jemima Goldsmith.

If the speaker is credible enough he should also send references against all MNAs including Nawaz & Co who has lied in their electoral documents.

PMLN at its worst and committing a blunder. I hope ECP disqualify Imran and then the game will start. No reference against Nawaz Shared but references will now flow again st the opposition. Democracy Pakistani style.

Honourable speaker of NA, so quick to send reference against IK to ECP; but was never able to sent references against NS to ECP. Very clear what kind of system is in practice in Pakistan. Action speaks louder than words.

Speaker and parliament members are incompetent if they were doing their job according to laws of constitutions, they all members including PM would have been disqualified long time ago. They don't have any ambitious to solve critical issues.

Does Speaker of NA has a right to file the case for disqualification by himself where is himself a speaker. will he file case against shareef family too as he is speaker and speaker should always be a unbiased / Neutral. moreover bani Gala is gifted or bought by any one but not been bought after doing corruption

Personally I think Mr Imran Khan is very self centered person all he wants is to become the PM of Pakistan by hook or by crook just put another feather in his hat, instead of focusing on the problems of his mandate and working along side the government all he is doing is creating mischief. Innocent people are killed and injured life comes to stand still in a country every time he gives a Dharna call . All the protest he has made so far have not really solved any major issues. In my own opinion he was good sports man but he is not a good statesman.

He has cleared himself many times. He has provided details on how he took loan from Jemima and how this was 'gifted'. I think pml n is missing trick by maligning him for financial corruption. We all know his credibility. Pml n is beter off if they use establishment backed ik as a card.

It's expected that Imran gets disqualified. Because ECP is government property just like all departments including Finance, Police, Judiciary etc. I am sure whatever point raised in the reference for disqualification if screening the Speaker or Prime minister or I may say all of the politicians, they will deemed to be disqualified.

@Ali As you know PML-N government came into power by the hook and crooks rules, that is why PM does not want to clear his and his family name from Panama leak scandal. Speaker is looking out the interest PM. What this government is done for ordinary person.? The PML-N government deliberately neglected main issues which affect ordinary citizens lives on the daily basis despite their hollow promises before the election. PM and family have special privileges(using tax payers money) to abroad for medical treatments, while poor can't go anywhere for the serious medical emergency in Pakistan. Looks like you are enjoying being the slave of this government.

@JUSTICE First of all the last elections were pretty much very fair all the reservations PTI had about certain seat the elections were held again on those seat. Secondly as far as improving the condition of a common man, well PTI KP government have not done nothing as well.

@Observer Making people Aware once was a good idea. But calling uncalled for strikes over and over again on the same issue is just doing more harm to the country's economy then any good. PTI Dharna Politics is now fading away. This current Dharna call by PTI failed to attract much less people then the last Dharna call.
