MIRPURKHAS, Dec 5: The Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), Mirpurkhas, launched its recovery campaign on a large scale as a result of which two defaulting landlords were arrested by the police on Friday.

The defaulting landlords, Mir Bago Talpur and Mohammad Nawaz Jarwar, have been sent to the district prison, Mirpurkhas.

Bank sources said that the head office of the ZTBL had fixed Dec 20 as the last date for recovering millions of rupees in outstanding arrears from the landlords.

Sources said that at least Rs130 million remained outstanding against the defaulters of Mirpurkhas Taluka as a result of which the recovery operation had been started with the help of police.

Many defaulters have gone underground to avoid arrests.

Sources said that hundreds of defaulters had been issued final notices to pay their outstanding dues; otherwise they would soon face legal action.

They told newsmen that after their arrest, the landlords were being kept in illegal confinement by bank authorities.

Pawan Kumar, 16, son of Mahipal Meghwar, a resident of old Numaish, Gharibabad, was hit by a Mirpurkhas-bound passenger train. He sustained serious injuries and died on his way to a Hyderabad hospitals.
