ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday said that the attack on American University in Kabul was “organised and orchestrated” from Pakistan.

Ghani also telephoned Army Chief General Raheel Sharif and demanded “serious measures against the terrorists”.

At least 16 people were killed after militants stormed the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul, officials said on Thursday — in a nearly 10-hour raid that prompted anguished pleas for help from trapped students.

Based on the information provided by Afghan government, one professor, seven students, two security guards of the university and three personnel of the Afghan defence forces were killed in the attack, while nine policemen and 36 students and staff of the university were reportedly injured.

A meeting of Afghanistan’s National Security Council was convened on Thursday, during which Ghani reportedly called Gen Raheel and asked him “for serious and practical measures against the terrorists who organised the attack”, read a statement issued by the office of Afghan president.

Afghan authorities shared three mobile numbers with Pakistan, saying these numbers were in allegedly in contact with the assailants from inside Pakistan during the university attack, said a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations.

Following which, the Pakistani security forces carried out a combing operation, based on the information provided by Afghan government, in area close to Pak-Afghan border to verify the presence of miscreants, ISPR claimed.

Sharing its evaluation of the shared information, ISPR said “all Afghan SIMs used during the attack were from a network owned and operated by Afghan company whose spill over signal affects some areas along Pak-Afghan border”.

Outcome of the operation has been shared with the Afghan authorities, moreover, further technical evaluation of the mobile numbers is being carried out, read the ISPR statement.

Is he Pak president that order General Raheel to act against terrerists ?

Muhammed Aug 25, 2016 08:40pm

if Ghani provides proof and evidence - Pak should help catch the culprits and likewise - if Pak requests similar action - it should be reciprocated by Afghan Authorities

On behalf of Pakistan and its people - sincere and deep condolences to people of Afghanistan.

Any life lost is a huge loss ...

ANT Aug 25, 2016 08:42pm

He has totally sidelined the PM.

Dr.Arshad Aug 25, 2016 08:43pm

Usual diatribe against Pakistan.Afghans need to take care of their defence and security.Pakistan must seal off the western border and repatriate all Afghans from its soil.

Parachinari Aug 25, 2016 08:44pm

These guys can't even control Kabul. Easy to blame others due to own failure. Afghan society is in tatters and divided

Harry Aug 25, 2016 08:45pm

Why call General, why not PM & FM..

Sultan Aug 25, 2016 08:47pm

Afghanistan is the hub of terrorism. Afghan government also needs to take some serious measures.

Maverik Aug 25, 2016 08:47pm

So Afghan SIMs using Afghan cellular networks somehow were in Pakistan?

Nomi Goraya Aug 25, 2016 08:49pm

Afghan Mobile sims and signals have always remain a grave concern for Pakistan and Pakistan has raised this issue time and again with Afghanistan. Border management issue is also core concern for Pakistan but Afghan government is not ready to act on both of these issues which have resulted in terror attack right in heart of Kabul. I think this mantra of Pakistani soil being used must be now taken very strongly with Kabul and tell them clearly that manage your security yourself

N_Saq Aug 25, 2016 08:50pm

Mr Ghani you should know by now that all roads to peace in Afghanistan go through Islamabad. So Mr Ghani if you really want peace in Afghanistan then stop playing games with Pak. You need to guarantee Pak security if you want Pak cooperation. You need to kick out all anti Pak elements from your establishment, I think you are a smart man and exactly know what I am talking about. So stop the drama and start cranking.

You will have full Pak cooperation if you make the right moves. The ball is, was and will be in your court. Let's see what you got and how sincere you are for peace in Afghanistan.

Justwasif Aug 25, 2016 08:56pm

Afghanistan can never be Pakistan's friend, we should rerealize and act accordingly..

Pathan Aug 25, 2016 08:56pm

If the culprits are from Pakistan they should be bring to justice.

Basit Ali Aug 25, 2016 08:56pm

What did General say?

Khanm Aug 25, 2016 08:57pm

@khan in my opinion he is better than him least he speaks and raises his concerns

Zubaida Khan Aug 25, 2016 08:57pm

What about Fazlullah? He is in Afghanistan as their guest.

Adeel Khan Aug 25, 2016 08:57pm

Ok Mr Ghani. Lets proceed with closing the borders for once and all and put everything to rest.

SB Aug 25, 2016 08:58pm

@ANT Yes, You are right.

TirahWall Aug 25, 2016 08:58pm

Why don't both coordinate and go against the common enemy of peace on both sides of border. Pak army conducting operation in Tirah valley and Afghan Army in adjacent Nangarhar across border but I am 100% sure they don't coordinate to give them a final blow. Similarly they accuse each other of harbouring enemies of each other. Quetta shora Vs Fazlulah etc. Sad and i hate to say it,

Ahmed bin Babar Aug 25, 2016 09:01pm

They don't deserve any help as long as they propagate against Pakistan without valid proofs and reliable witnesses...

iftikhar Aug 25, 2016 09:06pm

Keep an eye on your Indian friends, they enjoy good relation and ease of access with you and your enemies as well.

K Aug 25, 2016 09:07pm

When super power USA could not control Afghanistan killing thousands of people, how a country like Pakistan can protect Afghanistan that too when it is used by many stake holders and enemies.

Shyam Aug 25, 2016 09:09pm

Do no jump to conclusion that it is wrong accusation. Do something to catch the terrorists

Common Man Aug 25, 2016 09:11pm

Sorry for the loss. Shame on you the perpetrators. Shame on you.

Omar Aug 25, 2016 09:12pm

Pakistan stands with Afghanistan against all terrorist. If these terrorist are hiding around our border our Pakistani army will destroy them once and for all!

TOMUHTO TAWMAYTO Aug 25, 2016 09:14pm

Go figure...

Dev Aug 25, 2016 09:16pm

@Harry He knows very well who can help and who cannot.

Murli Aug 25, 2016 09:22pm

Afghans should lead by example.

C++ programmer Aug 25, 2016 09:25pm

Why not really investigate and prove them wrong

Sam Aug 25, 2016 09:24pm

So AFG intel is so advance they can pin point who did it all in a day? yet they cant find who is causing problems for them on daily basis internally?

Patel Surat Aug 25, 2016 09:28pm

@Harry Because he is the power center

Ali Ahmed Aug 25, 2016 09:28pm

Why dont our armed forces act against the afghan taliban who seek refuge in Pakistan?

Jalbani Baloch Aug 25, 2016 09:34pm

Pakistan itself is victim of repeated terrorism and is committed to extirpating the roots of terrorism from its soil. Instead of making political statements to malign Pakistan, it would be better to strengthen intelligence networking between the two countries and provide credible information to Pakistani Agencies, so that they can act swiftly and kill the terrorists, who create havoc in both countries.

a Aug 25, 2016 09:42pm

Afghanistan is such a tough place for everyone. Hard to believe Kabul once used to be a cosmopolitan place where women wore short clothing !

Shah Aug 25, 2016 10:01pm

Quetta, Balochistan attack was planned and executed from Afghanistan through RAW, ... Now what???

sbk Aug 25, 2016 10:19pm

@Parachinari , Have not attacks happened in Pakistan towns? Were you able to control?

sbk Aug 25, 2016 10:26pm

" one professor, seven students, two security guards of the university and three personnel of the Afghan defence forces were killed in the attack, while nine policemen and 36 students and staff of the university were reportedly injured."

Our deep condolence. I request everybody here not to mock at Afghans, when they are in pain.

Ravi Vancouver Aug 25, 2016 10:52pm

Any accusation of terror activities from India or Afghanistan is treated with denials and counter claim of terror coming from their neighbors This strategy goes in favor of terrorists. All three countries need to have common strategy for eliminating terrorism and elimination of safe heavens for terror group and prevent them from operating by changing names .

Zak Aug 25, 2016 11:08pm

Neither Pakistan is in total control of its agencies, neither is Afghanistan, so these incidents will continue without solution.

Khan Aug 25, 2016 11:29pm

Are we to believe that a government as incompetent and corrupt as the Afghan one has so quickly launched an investigation and unearthed the logistics behind the attack? Or should we instead regard this as Ghani shifting the blame as he always does for the failures of his own government to crack down on corruption and provide basic services (and security) for his people? I'd go with the latter.

Lahori Kid Aug 25, 2016 11:44pm

It may be true the attack was orchestrated from Pakistan, but how does he know it was a Pakistani? It could very well may have been one of the 3 million Afghans refugees. Also, its not just Pakistan's responsibility to guard the borders, Afghans need to do their part in protecting the borders too and stop dumping all the responsibility and blame on Pakistan.

Jaraseem Aug 25, 2016 11:57pm

Mr Ghani recognize that 70% of Afghanistan is still controled by the Taliban..where they can easily train and attack Kabul and surrounding areas at Will. Recognize that you cant isolate Talibans and Pushtoon tribes from peace talks if you need peace. If you want Peace.. abandon Indian agenda and its presence in Afghanistan.. as you very will know it has no business being there. Pakistan will help facilitate peace with the Talibans which will bring peace and harmony on both sides of border including Pakistan.

Nida Aug 26, 2016 12:00am

Any proof of Pakistan involvement?

aga khan Aug 26, 2016 12:05am

@ANT; Just being practical.

Yawar Aug 26, 2016 12:20am

Pakistan should take the high road and do whatever it can to help catch the terrorists regardless of what the government of Afghanistan has or has not done in the past to help fight terrorism in Pakistan.

Zak Aug 26, 2016 12:22am

All sims had Afghan numbers with frequency overlap. Still good we helped. FATA is cleared so how could they use Pak territory. Ghani should replace his intelligence chief who is in RAW pay and misdeeds Ghani, false information.

anony Aug 26, 2016 12:44am

It seems like Mr Ghani doesn't kbow that the Army Public School in Pakistan was attacked by terrorists from Afghanistan. Clean up your backyard before pointing fingers at others. Collaborating with India and being dictated on India's terms will take Afghanistan nowhere but towards doom.

Umer Salahuddin Aug 26, 2016 12:48am

What about terrorists attacked in Pakistan from Afghanistan.

Umer Salahuddin Aug 26, 2016 12:53am

Mr. President come through proper channel. You absolutely has no right to address directly to the army chief of Pakistan. Pakistan should lodge protest for this action by Afghanistan president.

Ameen Aug 26, 2016 12:57am

@Zubaida Khan

And Indian consulates along the Pak border continue to function as a den of snakes.

Khurram Jadoon Aug 26, 2016 01:05am

We are dealing with ones here without blaming Afghan or others, do fix it yourself. India is trying herself too to fix the ones happening there ... stop blaming each other

The end is near Aug 26, 2016 01:10am

Send Afghan refugees back to their country and seal the borders with Afghanistan.

Raja Aug 26, 2016 01:24am

@Nomi Goraya what is wrong in raising a valid point.

wazir Aug 26, 2016 01:53am

@Parachinari how come for years you have to travel to Kabul from parachenar and them to pershawar why Pakistan could not control the Peshawar pachenar road

Shah Nawaz Aug 26, 2016 02:26am

Having an institution with name, "American University of Afghanistan," is plain stupidity.

Imran Altaf Aug 26, 2016 02:42am

Who ever did this all I can say is that it has been over 15 years since USA and UK went in and tried to train the Afghan forces and yet security is no better.

iftikhara Aug 26, 2016 02:44am

Why not India why always PK? Afghanistan will never progress like that.

Taimoor khan Aug 26, 2016 03:09am

“all Afghan SIMs used during the attack were from a network owned and operated by Afghan company whose spill over signal affects some areas along Pak-Afghan border”.

This is the curx of problem. Majority of terrorist activities that happen in Pakistan use the Afghan SIMS. Afghan government needs to curb this problem asap.

Lafanga Aug 26, 2016 03:16am

So the Afghan SIMs using the Afghan network were used during the attack yet Pres Ghani blames Pakistan for it.

Muhammad Kazim Aug 26, 2016 03:46am

if afgan counter part complain about malitain with the bright evidence than it is essentail to pakistani govermnent to help him wih good understanding and mutual co-opertion nobody do not want to blood shed to their country. terrorists have no religion or nation . they are enemy to peaceful world

Tickleme Elmo Aug 26, 2016 04:20am

@Ali Ahmed Good question. why not armed forces take these out? You will find the answer in the article published yesterday by Owen Bennette-Jones.

Haris Abbas Aug 26, 2016 04:32am

Government of Pakistan requested Ghani many a time to take actions against these Afghan companies whose spill over signal and SIMs are being used in terrorist attacks in Pakistan but he didn't do anything.

khanman Aug 26, 2016 05:11am

Mr Ghani how do you know that?

Pakistani Aug 26, 2016 05:46am

Pakistan needs the build a wall!

Kamal2 Aug 26, 2016 05:57am

@Jalbani Baloch so smart , so sweet, and works so hard! thank you for the kind words!

imtiaz ali khan Aug 26, 2016 06:07am

@Dr.Arshad That is a tough statement for all those Afghans who were born and many of them who were just born in Afghanistan but raised in Pakistan.

yasir Aug 26, 2016 06:10am

I bet he cannot go outside his Kabul palace. Pakistan should take no responsibility in improving Afghan security till they agree to fence and mine the border.

Anil Aug 26, 2016 06:51am

@Dr.Arshad Afgan refugees will claim land and permanently settle to demand political space as well

Khan USA Aug 26, 2016 07:02am

This cat and mouse game is dangerous ! Everytime Afghanistan blames Pakistan and Pakistan blames Afghanistan !

Dr. Usman Aug 26, 2016 07:09am

Pakistan should act severely. We must stop this difference that as long as someone is hitting someone else and not hurting us, we should not touch them. Those doing that should not be in our soil. Kick them out or face punishment.

Najam Saeed Aug 26, 2016 07:13am

It may very well be true as these Taliban factions freely operate on both sides of the border. Somehow Pakistan should seal the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Until then the allegations will continue.

Iqbal Aswani Aug 26, 2016 07:17am

@Shyam Do no jump to conclusion that it is right accusation. Do something to catch the terrorists

Somi Ali Aug 26, 2016 07:35am

At the time of Ashoka and later upto 700 AD this region was the most prosperous and enlightened. After this it never been peaceful, the people have reverted to intolerance and violence. Time to say goodbye to the death cult.

an indian Aug 26, 2016 01:30pm

PAK should take action if perpetrators are there...!!!

Sami Shahid Aug 26, 2016 02:14pm

Ashraf Ghani is just trying to fool Afghan people.....when 40% Afghanistan is under the control of Taliban than not a single militant would like to use Pakistani soil.
