ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Romania have agreed to explore different ways to enhance cooperation in the defence sector with special regard to defence production.

An agreement was reached between the two countries on Tuesday after various meetings between Pakistan’s delegation led by Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain and the leaders in defence, economics and defence production sectors of Romania.

The Pakistani delegation is currently on a five-day official trip to Romania, said a press release issued here.

The Pakistani delegation held meetings with the Romanian secretary of state and the general manager of ROMARM National Company, along with the minister of economy, trade and relations.

Mr Hussain expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Romanian defence industries. He emphasised the need for regular interactions between the two countries.

He said that there was a potential for a joint collaboration in defence production, which should be explored.

He offered products and services of the Pakistan defence industries to Romania and highlighted that Pakistan valued strong bilateral relations with the country.

Minister Hussain said he appreciated Romania’s support for Pakistan at various international forums.

He added that Pakistan was committed to combating terrorism, extremism and militancy.

“The sacrifices made by the people of Pakistan and its armed forces remain unparalleled,” he said, adding that “our priority is relief and rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons”.
