SADIQABAD, Dec 3: Farmers are facing difficulties in sowing wheat on the waterlogged land along the Abbasia canal,
Punjab parliamentary secretary Chaudhry Mahmood Ahmad said.
Speaking at a press conference held at his residence here on Tuesday, Advocate Mahmood said the growers could not sow wheat in the area due to sub-soil ground water. He said the construction of a salinity drain and installation of tubewells were much needed to save the land from devastation.
Areas spreading over 90 square kilometres from headworks Bhal Chak to Firoza to Abbasia Link Canal, and the areas between Abbasia 3-R and Shahi Road had turned barren, he said.
He demanded the chief minister and the secretary irrigation to take measures to save the cultivators from further loss.
