RIO DE JANEIRO: On his maiden Olympic appearance, Pakistan’s Haris Bandey hardly had a performance to remember.

The 17-year-old Britain-based swimmer, who is taking part in the Rio Games on a wildcard, finished an appalling 50th out of 50 competitors in the men’s 400m freestyle heats on Saturday.

Featuring in the first heat, which saw three competitors take part, Haris clocked 4:33.13, way behind the winner Geoffrey Butler of the Cayman Islands (4:07.87) and Andorran Pol Arias Dourdet (4:21.16).

It was after six more heats that Haris’ abysmal time became even more pronounced — he along with Butler and Dourdet were the last three finishers in the heats.

The cut-off qualification time for the final was Frenchman Jordan Pothain’s 3:45.43.

American Conor Dwyer topped qualification with a time of 3:43.42 with Australian Mack Horton winning the event in 3:41.55.
