GUJRANWALA: Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) police arrested a suspect and recovered 12 rifles, a pistol and more than 25,000 bullets from his car near Chanda Qila bypass on Monday.

City police officer Waqas Nazir told the media they were informed that weapons had been smuggled from Peshawar. A team was formed under CIA Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Imran Abbas Chadhar that stopped a car without a number plate near Chanda Qila bypass and recovered 12 rifles, a 222-bore pistol and 25,000 bullets from it.

Car occupant Muhammad Waheed, a resident of Sheikhupura, was arrested and a case registered against him. The suspect said he was smuggling weapons to supply to criminals.

DSP Chadhar told the media police were conducting raids to arrest other accomplices of the Waheed.

PROTEST: Local bodies chairmen, including councillors, set up pushcarts of naan and pakoras outside the commissioner’s office on Monday and protested the non-transfer of powers to them.

The newly elected local bodies chairmen, including councillors, were led by Rizwan Cheema and Yahya Butt. They set up carts and shouted slogans.

Talking to the media, the protesters said nine months had passed but the government had not transferred powers to them. Their voters asked them to solve their social problems but they were helpless, they claimed.

They demanded transfer of powers to them so they could satisfy their voters.
