ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday suspended non-bailable arrest warrants of model Ayyan Ali in the murder case of Customs inspector Ijaz Mahmood.

Warrants for the model's arrest were issued on Thursday by a Rawalpindi court.

A two-member bench of the apex court on Friday heard Ayyan's appeal against issuance of the warrants with her counsel, Latif Khosa, pleading her client was in jail when the customs inspector was murdered.

Khosa alleged officials of the interior ministry were continuously violating court orders in Ayyan's case.

“Ayyan Ali is denied from travelling abroad despite court orders,” he added.

Khosa appealed for suspension of Ayyan's arrest warrants, which was accepted by the bench. The court also issued notices to the secretary interior, SHO Police Station Waris Khan, Rawalpindi and others.

Talking to media personnel outside the court, Khosa said Ayyan was facing threats. “Ayyan is being threatened by the federal and provincial governments,” he said.

He claimed Ayyan was being targeted by government officials for filing a contempt of court petition against the secretary interior, FBR chairman and customs officials.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for July 25.
