Awareness campaign about AIDS launched

SWABI, Dec 30: The federal and the provincial governments should initiate a comprehensive programme to create awareness among people about the menace of AIDS.

This was the crux of the speeches in a seminar organized by a local NGO, Sahar Network, on Sunday which was attended by medical professionals and people of the area.

The medical professionals informed the audience about the spread of the disease and transfer of AIDS virus from one person to another.

The speakers said if the government did not launch an awareness campaign about AIDS, the disease would spread at a rapid speed and it would be difficult for the authorities to control it. That was why, they said, precautionary measures were of utmost importance.

They said as a large number of people in our society were illiterate, educating such people was not an easy task and there was a need on the part of medical experts and the government to devise plans to create awareness among people.

The experts urged the people to use only disposable syringes and be careful in cases of blood transfusion.

Earlier, the general secretary of the Sahar Network said the NGO was working for the alleviation of poverty, elimination of child labour and establishment of peace in the society.
