LAHORE, Nov 25: The unilateral ceasefire announced by the government on the Line of Control is reflective of its defeatism, Jamaat-i-Islami amir said on Tuesday.

Qazi Husain Ahmed said in a statement that India would use the announcement as a propaganda weapon and proof of Pakistan’s involvement in terrorism and aggression.

The ground reality was that India was continuing a one-sided war against the Kashmiri Muslims, abandoned by the Pakistan army.

The JI leader, who is also vice-president of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, said although a civil government had been in power for the last one year, genuine democracy still remained to be restored.

A military dictator, he alleged, had arbitrarily amended the Constitution to give himself all vital powers.

In such conditions, Qazi said, the MMA was a ray of hope for the people.

The JI leader said the country was celebrating Eid at a time when the Ummat was passing through trying periods.

He appealed to the Muslims that while celebrating Eid they should also keep in mind the miseries of the people of Kashmir, Palestine and Iraq.
