THE recently announced IBA-Karachi’ admission test results for BBA, computer science, economics and maths, accounts and finance tell us a consistent story of what’s happening in schools and colleges run by the Sindh government.

Out of 1,055 candidates, 754 students (70%) who got admission to the BS and BBA programmes were from A-level curriculum while the remaining 301 students (30%) were from the intermediate class curriculum. Not a single student who passed matric class exams from government schools cleared the IBA test.

The IBA says that the admission test is based on the intermediate syllabus but very few inter-class students cleared the test. A few decades back, most of the IBA’ successful candidates used to be from government schools (nicknamed yellow schools).

Who is not aware of the fact that the deplorable standards of teaching and copy culture has moved IBA (and all such prestigious institutes) beyond the reach of those students who can’t afford private schools education. But even every private school is not a success story; it all depends on how much you are ready to pay as these are run as profit making entities.

It is quite clear that not only this government but every previous government has not given education its top priority. The IBA admission results expose what is being taught in government schools and colleges.

Education is now no more a state concern; it is in the hands of the private sector. It is up to you to keep your progeny in government-run schools and push them into the vicious cycle of poverty.

The Sindh government has announced a large chunk for education in the 2016-17 budget, but nothing is likely to change other than the fattening of a few accounts balances.
