LAHORE, Nov 24: Four people were killed and nine others injured in a pile-up apparently due to thick fog at the Sherakot Motorway Interchange on Monday.
Police said a car applied brakes when its driver could not see properly due to thick fog. Two other cars and four buses piled up and rammed into each other. As a result, 13 people sustained injuries.
The Motorway and National Highways police rushed to the scene and pulled out the injured from the wreckage of the vehicles.
The injured were taken to various hospitals where four of them were pronounced dead. Three of them were identified as Sar Buland Khan, Shah Wali Khan and Hayatullah.
In another incident which took place at the canal in Ichhra police limits, an unidentified man was killed when iron rods loaded on a tractor-trolley pierced through his body.
The police said a double-cabin while overtaking the trolley hit it. Iron rods loaded on the trolley pierced through the body of one of the occupants of the double-cabin and he died instantly.
SUICIDE: A girl set herself on fire over a dispute with her mother at Fatehgargh, Harbanspura, on Monday.
Police said Hina, 23, exchanged hot words with her mother over a family dispute. When her mother scolded her, she set herself on fire. She sustained critical burns and died at the Mayo Hospital.
ARRESTED: Police investigation wing claimed on Monday having arrested nine members of a 10-man gang of motorcycle-lifters and robbers.
The police, on a tip-off, raided a house at Bakarmandi and arrested ring leader Saddiq who helped the police arrest his accomplices. They were identified as Waris, Qari Anwar Ali, Shafat Ali, Tariq Mahmood, Niamat Ali, Tanveer Husain, Rafiq and Yasin. Their another accomplice, Rana Munir, is still at large.
The police claimed to have recovered Rs50,000 in cash, three stolen motorcycles, five pistols and 25 bullets from the alleged robbers.
