Finance ministry clarifies position

Published November 24, 2003

ISLAMABAD, Nov 23: The ministry of finance has objected to a headline “Targets not achieved, says Shaukat” published in Dawn issue of Nov 23.

A press release issued by the ministry said that three sets of information were distributed by the finance minister at his press conference highlighting performance of the economy for fiscal 2002-03, first four months (July-October) of the current fiscal year (2003-04) and progress made during November 2002 to October 2003.

None of these tables suggest that the targets were not achieved, the release said. The release did not comment on contents of the news report.
