GUJRANWALA, Nov 23: Heirs of the slain Naushera Virkan market committee vice-chairman resented against the police for not arresting an MPA and his brother involved in a murder case despite rejection of their bail applications.
They threatened to stage a sit-in outside the Punjab chief minister office in Lahore if the MPA and his brother were not arrested immediately.
Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, former district council member Haji Riasat Ali Hinjra, father of the slain and others alleged that MPA Mudassar Qayyum Nahara was involved in several criminal cases, including the murder of Iftikhar Ahmed.
They further alleged that the MPA and his brother were exerting political pressure on police which were now reluctant to arrest the accused despite court orders.
The accused had also the investigation of the murder case changed following using his political office, they blamed.
OUTLAWS ESCAPE: Two outlaws beat a retreat after an exchange of firing with police on Sunday during a robbery bid near Sadhoki.
The Kamoki Sadar police, on patrol duty, spotted two motorcyclists busy in looting passersby near a Sadhoki village. Seeing police, the outlaws tried to run away from the scene. The police chased them, but the outlaws opened fire on them which was returned. After some distance, the outlaws abandoned their bike on the road and made themselves scare in the darkness.
The police recovered the bike (STE-5738) which was snatched from a passerby a few days back.
A case has been registered against the outlaws.
Meanwhile, four highwaymen looted a wagon on Naushera Virkan Road on Sunday.
The wagon was going to Naushera Virkan from Gujranwala when robbers travelling in the vehicle as passengers whipped out their weapons near Tung Kalan village. They snatched cash, wristwatches and jewellery from passengers and escaped with the booty.
