RAPIDLY growing population, despite decades-long measures to check and control it, is not only consuming the limited resources of the country but also creating a number of social and other problems for the people. One such problem is overcrowding of graveyards everywhere.

The Punjab government in the last couple of years has established a number of authorities for development and improvement of various sectors for providing better services and facilities to the people throughout the province. There has been criticism about these authorities from some quarters also but these authorities are doing their assigned tasks within the available resources.

But one authority which has just been established is indeed a move in the right direction.

According to media reports recently, the Punjab chief minister has agreed to set up an authority to review overcrowding of the existing graveyards and work for provision of model graveyards in all districts.
