KARACHI: Two traffic police officials were shot dead in a targeted attack by unidentified assailants in Ayesha Manzil area of the metropolis on Saturday, reported DawnNews.

"One official traffic police official died on the spot and the other official died while being transported to the hospital," said rescue sources.

Both officials were shot multiple times from close range.

"There were four traffic police officials deployed at the Ayesha Manzil traffic section, however, at the time of attack two officials had gone for prayers while the other two were performing their duty," said DIG West Feroze Shah.

Shah added that both police officials were shot in the neck and above, and one of the officials tried to return fire but was shot before he could retaliate.

Emergency and security services reached the spot of the attack and started their initial investigations.

Police officials recovered a spent 9mm casing from the crime scene. The assailants managed to escape the scene of the incident.

Qaim Ali Shah directs Sindh IG to arrest culprits

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the killing of two traffic constables and directed IG Sindh A.D Khwaja to arrest the culprits.

The chief minister said the attack on police, rangers or on any other government force is “unacceptable”.

The IG briefed the Sindh chief minister about the incident and vowed to arrest the culprits very soon.

Shah also asked the Sindh IG to take proper care of the family members of the assassinated traffic policemen.

Earlier in September, a traffic police constable was shot dead while two others sustained bullet wounds in an armed attack in Site-B area of the metropolis.

In August, two policemen helping traffic police in the busy Saddar area were gunned down by armed riders when they were asked to stop.

Police officials suspect that three militant groups have become ‘active’ in targeting policemen after a lull in such activities.
