GUJRANWALA, Nov 20: The girl students of several institutions on Thursday expressed displeasure over construction of a wall in front of the Jamia Masjid Shah Jamal, Gakkhar, which they said had blocked their passage to the GT Road.

They threatened the National Highway and Motorway Police that they would stage a sit-in, if the three-foot wall was not demolished within three days.

The students, who represented the Government Higher Secondary School, Government Girls Middle School and some private institutions of the Gakkhar Town, claimed that this was the safe passage for crossing the GT Road for most of them, but the NH&MP had closed it in the wake of rising road accidents.

They demanded the authorities concerned that the wall should be demolished to save them from further inconvenience.

PLEA DISMISSED: District and Sessions Judge Riazul Hassan on Thursday rejected the bail application of an MPA and his brother for not pursuing the case. The court ordered an action against their guarantors.

According to reports, Naushera Virkan market committee vice-chairman Iftikhar Ahmad was assassinated over an election dispute by his rivals two weeks ago.

Police booked MPA Mudasar Qayyum Nahara, his brother Mazhar Qayyum Nahara and other members of their family. However, the two brothers obtained an interim bail from a court of law.

The judge rejected bail application of the accused when they could not turn up in court for pursuing the case.

It is stated that the MPA’s two supporters, Zakaullah and Masood Ahmad, of Chohewali village, had submitted their guarantee worth Rs100,000 each.
