GUJRAT: The management of the University of Gujrat (UoG) has launched internal audit of the varsity affairs during the first eight years since its inception in 2006.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ziaul Qayyum issued the order last week for the audit of the university’s working with special focus on admissions, examination and financial and student affairs as well as appointments of the teaching and administrative staff.

Dr Nizamuddin, currently heading the Punjab Higher Education Commission, was the UoG VC during the period under review, i.e. 2006 to 2014.

As per the notification, Dr Danish, the acting controller examination and the head the Chemistry department, will lead the probe committee with Muhammad Faheem of the planning department as its secretary and Aamir Raza, a networking engineer, and Haroon Arshad of Students Service Centre, as its members.

Dr Tahir Aqeel, who has been appointed as acting registrar after completing his tenure in the same office around a month ago, declined to comment on the notification.

UoG spokesman and director press, media and publications, Sheikh Abdul Rasheed, said the fresh notification of the internal audit had nothing to do with that of the previous VC.

The university had been facing a good number of issues related to the students’ affairs, especially in connection with the examinations and financial matters, particularly from 2006 to 2014. That’s why the VC had ordered an audit to have a clear picture of the affairs to fix the responsibility for those issues, added Mr Rasheed.

When contacted, Dr Nizamuddin said the audit of each year was conducted during his tenure as VC.
