KARACHI: At least five factory workers who were cleaning a chemical tank at a factory in Korangi Industrial Area died on Sunday.

Superintendent Police (SP) Landhi Afnan Amin said four workers got into the chemical tank to clean it, followed by three more men who attempted to rescue them. The incident occurred at a factory which manufactures polythene bags.

Five men who were brought dead to JPMC died as a result of inhaling toxic fumes, while one other worker is in stable condition at the hospital, head of JPMC's emergency unit, Dr Seemin Jamali said.

The factory has been cordoned off by police.
