Pakistan elected toUN trade law body

UNITED NATIONS, Nov 18: Pakistan was elected along with 43 other members on Monday on the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law for a period of six years.

According to a UN press release, the election of members to the commission was carried out in two phases when the General Assembly elected in the first phase, 19 new members who would replace those members whose terms are expiring on June 13 next year. The new members include four states from Africa, four from Asia, three from eastern Europe, four from Latin America and Caribbean and four from western Europe and other states, obtaining the endorsement of regional groups for each member state for membership of the commission for a period of six years starting from June 14 next year.

Besides Pakistan, the other countries are: Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, India, Italy, Kenya, Madagascar, Mongolia, Nigeria, Paraguay, Serbia and Montenegro, Spain, Thailand, Uganda, the United States and Venezula.—APP
