KARACHI, Nov 17: United States of America (USA) completed a fine double by winning men’s Bermuda Bowl-World Bridge Championship beating Italy by solitary International Match Point (IMP) after a dramatic finish at Monte Carlo (Monaco), according to a message received on Monday.

In the Bermuda Bowl final USA1 overpowered Italy by 304 IMPs to 303 IMPs to retain their crown. USA1 had started the 7-round final with 13 IMPs carry over.

Earlier, USA1 ladies team clinched the Venice Cup beating China in the final.

When play resumed for the final two sessions, USA1 was leading by 37 IMPs and it was quite difficult target to overcome.

In the seventh segment, Italy overcame the deficit to some extent scoring 38-29 IMPs. The leading was reduced to just 28 IMPs.

In the playoff for the third place, USA2 beat Norway to finish third.—APP
