NAWABSHAH, Nov 17: Workers of the irrigation department, Nusrat division, have warned of closing the Nusrat Canal if the Bucheri union council Nazim is not arrested in 24 hours.

Several irrigation workers and officials of the Nusrat division continued their protest for the third consecutive day here on Monday by observing a token hunger strike in front of the press club.

They urged the authorities to arrest Nazim Naveed Latif Abbasi, his three brothers and others nominated in an FIR of water theft.

They also demanded that police pickets should be established at watercourses, “fake” cases against the irrigation officials be withdrawn and the police should provide protection to them.
