KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteoro­logical Department (PMD) has said that while most parts of Sindh are already experiencing a fairly hot spell, people in the provincial capital and its adjoining coastal areas may have to deal with a heatwave from Friday to Sunday when the mercury could touch 40 degrees Celsius.

A PMD spokesperson said on Thursday that owing to a high pressure cell the winds would gradually change direction, bringing hot and dry air to the metropolis and nearby areas from the inland.

Between Friday and Sunday, daytime temperatures were expected to range between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, the spokesperson said.

However, from Monday onwards the wind direction would change again and relatively cool breeze from the sea would start blowing in the city, pulling down the mercury, he said.
