Mohammad Hafeez termed Pakistan’s disastrous exit from the recently concluded World Twenty20 a ‘collective failure’ of the team and vowed to support the newly-appointed T20 skipper Sarfraz Ahmed.
“Pointing fingers at an individual is not fair. All of us failed at the World T20,” said the veteran batsman.
“I failed as well,” he added.
Hafeez praised the Pakistan Cricket board’s (PCB) decision to replace Shahid Afridi with wicketkeeper Sarfraz who has been with the national side since 2007 but rose through the ranks in the last couple of years.
“The decision [to appoint Sarfraz] is positive and there is continuity about it,” said Hafeez.
“We will work together and take this team to a position where the fans want to see it,” he added.
Hafeez also supported the recent steps taken by the Board following Pakistan’s dismal performances in limited overs cricket.
Along with the skipper’s resignation, the national side’s head-coach also quit his job and the selection committee was also dissolved.
“Any steps taken with the intention of improving things should be backed,” said Hafeez.
Pakistan’s next assignment comes after a long break when they take on England on a full tour which will consist of four Tests, five one-dayers and one Twenty20.
The tour kicks off from July 16.
