ISLAMABAD: More than 20 cases of alleged corruption in the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast) have been referred to the NAB and FIA for investigation and to bring those involved in wrongdoings to justice.

A meeting of the Advisory Committee of Fuuast chaired by President Mamnoon Hussain at the Presidency on Monday was informed that former vice chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal had been removed for his alleged involvement in corrupt practices. The head of the advisory committee and deputy chairman of the university, Javed Ashraf Hussain, presented a report on the performance of the institution.

According to a handout, a three-member committee headed by Ashraf Hussain was formed to run the affairs of the varsity and stop corruption. The post of the vice chancellor is still lying vacant.

Acting VC Dr Suleman Mohammad told Dawn after the meeting that cases referred to the NAB and FIA were related to issuance of fake degrees, illegal appointments and misappropriation of funds.
