THATTA, Nov 14: The sugarcane growers staged a sit-in in front of Shah Murad Sugar Mills in Jhok Sharif on Friday to protest against the delay in sugarcane crushing season and payment of their dues.
The protest was organized by Small Growers Association, Mirpur Bathoro taluka, and most of its participants belonged to the Sujawal area.
Speaking on the occasion, Arbab Wazir Ahmed Memon and others rejected the fixing of sugarcane price at Rs41 per 40kg by the Sindh government.
The rising prices of agricultural input had made it imperative to increase the sugarcane price to at least Rs50 per 40kg, they insisted.
They warned that if the crushing was not started and their payments were not made, the farmers would launch a campaign across Sindh in a week.
