HYDERABAD, Nov 13: A delegation of chairmen of five farmers’ organizations of the Nara Canal Area Water Board that called on the Sida managing director at his office here on Wednesday said irregular and inadequate water supply to six branches of the canal had affected sugarcane crop in the region.

Sida managing director Rafiq Safi Munshey after hearing the complaints of the delegation from Sanghar directed the director, Nara Canal AWB, Mirpurkhas, on telephone to look into the complaints and send a detailed compliance report to him, said a press release.

The delegation, including Khushi Mohammad, Riaz Ahmad Bajwa, Mohammad Anwar and Dur Mohammad Kesio, held the executive engineer, Thar division, responsible for the water shortage in the Chotiari Distributary, Sadhno-II Minor, Hiran Distributary, Baghdad Minor, Samatri Distributary and the Baqar Distributary.

They said this was being done to fail the new system of FOs as before the establishment of Sida, full water was supplied to the branches.

They said they called on the Bakhro SDO on Nov 7 but he said he could not ensure water supply as the executive engineer had directed against it.

The member of the delegation said they also called on the Sanghar district coordination officer who talked on telephone to the executive engineer.
