ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has appointed Muhammad Amlish as the new director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The prime minister’s spokesman confirmed the appointment on Tuesday.

The appointment comes at a time when Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar is persistently asking the agency to show progress in investigations of mega scams.

Mr Amlish, who was heading the National Police Bureau before the fresh appointment, is expected to assume charge as chief of the country’s prime investigation agency from today (Wednesday).

This would be his fourth assignment in less than ten months. He was serving as additional inspector general of the special branch when he was appointed Balochistan IG in June 2015.

Later, he was transferred to the NBP as its director general in October, last year.

Mr Amlish has also served as the additional inspector general (AIG) of investigations in Punjab, DIG headquarters Punjab and Lahore Capital City Police Officer.
