KARACHI: A guard was shot dead by suspected robbers for offering resistance in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Saturday night.

According to officials, the guard was protecting a DHA official’s family, who had come to meet their relatives in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block-5.

The guard, identified as Waqas, was standing along with the driver of the vehicle outside the house when two gunmen approached them ostensibly with intention of snatching mobile phone from him, a police official said.

As the guard put up resistance, the suspects shot at him. Despite being injured, the guard returned fire and killed one robber while his accomplice managed to escape from the area.

The guard sustained critical wounds and was taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The deceased robber’s identity could not be ascertained immediately.
